The studio

OSHAN is produced on a seven acre off grid farm along the road to Hāna. Every formula is written and made on site, from the first aromatic blend through the final fill, the label and the box.

Batches stay small on purpose. Each one is checked against the last for texture before it leaves the studio.

What follows is how the work is done, and what to do with the packaging once the product is finished.

Made in small batches

Every formula is developed and produced in the studio on Maui. Small batches allow close attention to texture, aroma and consistency.
Aromatic by design

Essential oils are selected with the same care as the rest of the formula. Each blend has a defined sensory role and is disclosed for those with sensitivities.
Grown and harvested close to home

Sea salt is hand-harvested in the islands. Sandalwood is grown and distilled in Hawaii, spirulina comes from Hawaiian waters, honey from Maui hives, and beeswax from local keepers. The C3 Solar Infusion is steeped in macadamia oil in our own kitchen.
Every ingredient has a job

Every ingredient is chosen for a defined role. Water-based formulas use preservation systems selected for the needs of each formula. Where a balm needs wax, candelilla keeps it fully plant-based; where beeswax performs better, it comes from Hawaiian hives. All scent comes from essential oils and plant extracts.
Kind to animals

Every OSHAN formula, and every ingredient in it, is made without animal testing. OSHAN is cruelty-free in practice and has no formal certification.
Run on sun and rain

The farm runs off-grid on solar power and collected rainwater, and production is net zero. On the land around the studio, native Hawaiian plants are returning, including Royal Hawaiian sandalwood.

Recycling

Here is where each part of an OSHAN order goes once the product is finished, and how to take each piece apart for recycling.

Glass bottles

Bottles come with a dropper, a spray, or a pump cap.

Pull off the dropper, spray, or pump cap and put it in the bin. The mixed parts inside cannot be separated for recycling.
Rinse the bottle under the tap until the water runs clear.
Put the clean glass in your home recycling.

Glass jars

Jars close with a plastic lid.

Lift off the plastic lid and put it in the bin.
Wipe out whatever is left inside, then wash the jar in hot water.
Put the clean glass in your home recycling.

Black UV glass, send it back to us

Part of the collection is filled into black UV glass, which keeps light off the formula and keeps it stable for longer. This glass does not sort well alongside clear glass at a recycling facility, so we would rather have it back and give it another life here.
